| The plaque was discovered in 1799 on the occasion of the consolidation work that was performed in the neighborhood of the Rosetta city, on the Nile. It is made of black basalt and it contains an inscription that is written in three alphabets: the Egyptian hieroglyphic writing, the Demotic writing and the old Greek. Using these inscriptions, Champollion deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphs at the beginning of the 19th century. The Louvre Museum, Paris. Size: 23x29 cm
